It's Monday and I forgot to email home my LJ password so I couldn't post all weekend. I was too lazy to drive into work so instead I spent much time playing Football Manager and watching telly. I decided in a fit of madness to put Sky Sports back on so I could watch the Community Shield. Not a bad game and I'm determined to watch far more footie this year - at £20 a month I'd better had really.
I am - I think - that unusual mix of Sci-fi and footie fan. To that end this weekend I sat down and watched the pilots of The Bionic Woman and The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Try saying that when you've had a few). The first was fairly enjoyable and the very sexy Michelle Ryan sounds as American as apple pie to my ears. As someone who has never been a big fan of the denizens of Walford I don't have an overriding memory of her screeching at Frank or Ricky. The show has the added bonus of the very lovely Katee Sackhoff (familiar to Battlestar fans as the shit-storm that is Kara "Starbuck" Thrace) and it's an enjoyable romp. The leaked pilot shows Jaime Sommers with a deaf pissed off sister - and amongst a degree of controversy this character has apparently been pulled before broadcast. Nonetheless it was a well spent 40 mins and I'll certainly hit the SKY+ button when it airs on ITV next year.
Next up was the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Mmmm. Well it's got Summer Glau in it which is good. Yep that's about it really. The plot sees a robot from the future...yes there's only so far you can go with this story - or at least that's what I thought. The effects are singularly unimpressive for a modern show - at times the bad Terminator looked like he'd rolled off the set of Robot Wars. In a shocking twist the trio of Sarah, John and Cameron (the Summer Glau character) travel forward in time to the cost-saving year of 2007. Cue, I'm sure, lots of Star Trek: The Voyage Home style not very shrewd observations about modern life.
Anyway work to be done. Tonight I will mostly be watching Pushing Daisies.
